ChatGPT Handles 29,000 Messages Per Second

OpenAI, with researchers from Duke and Harvard, has published a study that reveals just how quickly the chatbot has taken off. Since its November 2022 launch, ChatGPT has grown to 700 million weekly users by July 2025, about 10% of the world’s adults sending 2.5 billion messages daily (around 29,000 every second). Interestingly, non-work use has soared, jumping from 53% in mid-2024 to 73% in mid-2025, showing that ChatGPT is becoming just as essential for personal and home activities as it is for work.

AI Agents Can Pay Each Other Without Humans

Google has supercharged its Agent2Agent (A2A) framework with the new Agentic Payments Protocol (AP2) and its x402 extension, allowing AI agents to pay each other directly using stablecoins. This upgrade moves A2A beyond just sharing information, agents can now exchange value, monetize services, and complete transactions autonomously. In a demo for Lowe’s Innovation Lab with Coinbase, a single prompt had an agent research products, build a cart, pay with stablecoins via x402, and trigger shipping, all without card details or human input.

Microsoft Will Stop Supporting Windows 10

Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. After nearly a decade, the OS will stop getting security updates, new features, and technical support, leaving PCs increasingly vulnerable to malware and cyber threats. While Windows 10 devices will still run, businesses could face compliance risks and app issues as developers shift to newer platforms. Microsoft says Microsoft 365 Apps and Defender Antivirus on Windows 10 will keep receiving limited security updates until 2028.

Alibaba’s Tongyi DeepResearch Challenges OpenAI

Alibaba has unveiled Tongyi DeepResearch, the first fully open-source web agent to rival OpenAI’s DeepResearch in performance with a step-by-step playbook for building advanced research agents. In benchmarks, it scored 32.9 on Humanity’s Last Exam, 43.4 on BrowseComp, 46.7 on BrowseComp-ZH, and 75 on xbench-DeepSearch, beating both open-source and proprietary rivals in complex information-seeking tasks. Backed by Agentic Continual Pre-training, Supervised Fine-Tuning, and Reinforcement Learning, plus a powerful synthetic data engine that can create PhD-level research questions autonomously, Alibaba is setting a new bar for open-source AI research tools.

Google is Reimagining the Classic Textbooks

Google Research has introduced Learn Your Way, an interactive AI experiment on Google Labs that turns static classroom content into dynamic, personalized lessons. Instead of the usual one-size-fits-all textbooks, it adapts material to a student’s grade level and interests, while keeping the core concepts intact. The tool can transform lessons into immersive text, quizzes, narrated slides, audio, or mind maps, allowing students to mix and match formats for deeper learning. In a study with Chicago high schoolers, those using Learn Your Way scored 11% higher on retention tests.
